Millions of Americans across 17 states are expected to be able to see the Northern Lights illuminate the night sky this week. The Northern Lights, also known as aurora borealis, are expected to be visible Thursday from -- west to east -- Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, New York, Maryland, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine, according to the University of Alaska at Fairbanks' Geophysical Institute. Cities including Helena, Montana, and Montpelier, Vermont, along with Milwaukee and Minneapolis, will be able to see the Northern Lights overhead.
