Dog sledders converged on the Yukon Quest headquarters in Fairbanks to be first to sign up for the 2024 Yukon Quest Alaska races, Saturday. 'I'm excited to race my own dogs in a pretty prominent race,' Steve Humes of Fairbanks said. Humes said this will be his first time in the 300-mile Yukon Quest race. Last year he did the 80-mile event. Humes has also competed in dog sled races in Idaho and Oregon. At least eight people signed up Saturday, however dog sledders have until January 2024 to sign up.
